kerala-family-trip

It’s been one, and a half year now we traveled to Kerala. I always wanted to visit Kerala once in a lifetime because I read a lot about it and I wanted to see why its called God’s Own Country. So, I got a chance to visit Kerala to attend a Malayalam style wedding in November 2016; I booked train tickets for five of us, it was a holiday season trains were full, and I tried my best to confirm our seats, but until last time it didn’t happen. Fortunately when we supposed to start our journey and we were so worried about how are we going to make this long journey but thankfully on time we got train tickets from an unknown source he had extra tickets. I had to pay double, but it was worth it. Day 01 Thrissur – Cultural Capital of Kerala It really is, you…

Lohagad – Best Family Trekking Spot

Lohagad Fort

Today I am writing my travel diary after 2 months. Not cool I know, but I was all occupied with many things, job, housework and weekend trips. I went to Lohagad in June when Monsoon has just arrived. I went with my other 3 friends on the bike from Pune. It was Sunday we were looking to explore an easy trekking spot nearby Pune. So, we randomly pick Lohagad as I already visited Bhaja Karla caves and trekking to the Lohagad was remaining. At 11 o’clock we started our journey towards Malvali. We took old Pune-Mumbai Highway and headed towards Lonavala. Just before arriving Lonavala, there is a direction for Karla Caves. We took a right from this direction-board and headed towards Malavali and then towards the base village of the Lohagad Fort. The route towards the fort is thrilling and brave. Visitors can also walk all the way to…

Breathtaking Trek to Torna Fort

torna-fort-trek-splendid-traveler

History Torna Fort is historically significant as first acquired by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the age of 16. The fort is incredibly massive; perhaps that is the reason Chhatrapati renamed the fort as “Prachandgad” (Massive/huge is “Prachand” in Marathi and “gad/killa” indicates fort). Tallest fort amongst all forts in the district of Pune, 4,603 ft above sea level. One can trek to the Rajgad from Torna or vice versa, is a 5-6 hours hiking. Trekking Experience Favorite amongst trekkers and now mine favorite too as I felt the thrill too.  Last Thursday Kushal called me asking any plans for Sunday, as we already visited Rajgad and Torna was remaining to visit, so I said what about Torna? He said okay. Then we called our…

Parvati Hill Pune – My Favorite Place in a Heartbeat

Parvati Hill Pune

Parvati is a hillock in the City of Pune, India. The hill stands at 2,100 feet high above the ground. On top of the hill, you can visit the Parvati Temple, one of the ideal relaxation points for the natives of Pune. The hillock offers a picturesque aerial view of the city and if you are an earlybird, do not miss observing morning picture of the day. I have been living in Pune since two years now. I still remember my first visit to Pune, it was a rainy day June 17. My interview was scheduled at IT company situated at Singhgad Road. Today I thought I should write about my first emotion with Pune City. The interview was done as planned but one thing happened as  I was on 4th floor and I was waiting for an interview call. I sat front of a big window facing to Parvati…

Ajmer – The Land of Gharib Nawaz

shrine of Moinuddin Chishti at Ajmer Sharif

All my paradoxical appeal of Euphemisms were laid to rest and my quixotic appeal of religious awakening was laid to rest when I bowed down to the shrine of Moinuddin Chishti at Ajmer Sharif. I felt elevated with a sense of bird leaving his cage created by the contours of his own mind and escaping beyond boundaries beyond human comprehension. I stood there stupefied at atmosphere which surrounded me. The crowd which surrounded me were filled with souls ready to redeem themselves and pastorate themselves at will and here I stood there without any thought or sense just looking at the tomb wondering at Majar and asking him for divine intervention. The proceedings of my life confounded me and made me ask for more and yet I believe the answer remains within myself which I have to discover by removing the cobwebs that I have laid down for myself. The…

A Road Trip Down the Memory Lane, My Visit to Shivsrushti aka Raigad Mahotsav

Intro – In the last week of the first month of the year I planned something exciting after a month long grilling work. And to my surprise, it was another road trip (which I crave for BTW!) in Raigad district a good 150 km. from the hustle bustle of Pune. On Jan 24th, 2016, I went to relive the majesty and greatness of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s era at “Raigad Mahotsav” (a first of its kind of festival arranged to relive and feel the great Maharashtrian culture), which was held from 21st to 24th January 2016. What was the Raigad Mahotsav all about? As it was the last day of the Mahotsav and people from all neighboring cities of Mumbai and Pune had thronged Raigad fort, to witness the “ShivShrusti” on the 20-acre land at the base of Raigad Fort, in the vicinity of Pachad village, to portray the golden era…
